V 1 2 1 coaching is like the name suggests
a one to one rider coaching program.
It starts off with the prospective client
choosing a circuit that they are happy with.
Having track knowledge saves valuable time not learning lines
that on a coaching day would take up time which could
be better spent developing other skills and techniques.
After meeting in the morning, introducing myself
talking about what the client would like to achieve on the day
it's on with the first session on track
and it's purely a warm up and observational one.
It gives me a rough idea of what you're about.
Often the client has fixed ideas of their strong or weak points,
but they can often be very different in reality.
The debrief after the first session gives the client and myself a better
idea of the way forward working on specific points on the sections
of the circuit allowing the client time to think about
what they're doing, what they're going to do,
executing a manoeuvre, and thinking about how it went,
without the pressure of getting every corner right all the time.
As each session goes by and the day develops,
we can tailor each session to the client's individual learning ability.
Remember we don't all learn at the same rate.
There are core elements that are the key to a good consistent lap,
I like to ensure my clients have these
as a good foundation to build on.
Out on track I spend most of the time behind the client in
an observational role.
Looking for habits or issues that could be hampering their riding style.
Monitoring where they're looking what they're looking for
and in later sessions assessing how they're interpreting
our on track plans and goals for achievement.
From time to time I can bob in front of the client
to show specific line or technique then drop behind again.
The recorded footage both front and rear is a valuable tool
it can illustrate exactly what the client is doing out on track
at any one point on the circuit.
Also I can point out kerbs, lines or objects that can be used
as reference points
to help them develop their own smooth consistent riding.
Because the day is 100 percent dedicated to the client
I can focus on any matters that may arise, from mechanical mods,
machinery setup, clothing or physical problems
can often be dealt with before they cause further issues.
Because each day, each rider is different
there is no one-size-fits-all solution we're all different people,
So I treat everyone as an individual.
With 31 years of racing under my belt
there's very little I haven't already felt, seen, done or experienced.
And as a result I can hand hold a novice rider
through their early days
right through to the experienced racer needing
to find that extra tenth of a second.
