My name is Olivier Longué and I’m the director of Action Against Hunger
an organization that works, as very its name suggests,
to eradicate hunger worldwide.
Our work focuses on children in particular,
along with very cruel type of hunger: acute malnutrition.
Action Against Hunger is an international organization.
This means we are a network with headquarters
in the US, UK, Canada, France, Spain and now India.
Gradually, our idea is that this movement of headquarters
extends to reach the more than 1 billion people
who suffer from hunger worldwide.
We know, thanks to our studies and research
that hunger has no justification.
There are economists and even biologists
who try and defend the idea that hunger has a regulating role,
as if it were some kind of natural mechanism.
That’s just not true
There is no biological or economic justification for hunger.
Hunger is an accident and,
for the first time, our generation has the ability to bring an end to hunger.
We would like to transform and turn the concept of World Food Day on its head
so that it becomes World Against Hunger Day.
Today, it’s important that we see how food,
both too much and not enough of it
is responsible for so much human destitution.
We believe that it is a day that must be used for reflection and for raising awareness
But we also believe it is a day for hope,
because on this day, the media and media attention in general
allow us to pass on a positive, optimistic message
to a wider audience and public opinion in general.
The message of hunger
does not have to be one of sorrow and destitution.
It needs to be a positive message.
Music creates pleasure and so does food.
And we think it’s important to use
music to touch people who already think of it as an element of pleasure, as something positive
We will also use this channel to reach out with the message of hunger.
