Green drink smoothies are a home-made blend of fresh fruits & green vegetables.
Smoothies have become a big part of my fibromyalgia diet.
I've recently noticed a great improvement in my fibro symptoms over the past several
months drinking this somewhat unusual concoction on an almost daily basis.
I'm convinced beyond a doubt that green smoothies benefit those who choose to consume them on
a regular basis. Let's face it - most of us have poor diets.
The need for handfuls of daily supplements might not be necessary if people realized
that these smoothies accomplish the same thing or even better.
Here are 8 ways how you can benefit from green drink smoothies.
1. Green drink smoothies are very nutritious. The ratio of nutrients in them is optimal
for human consumption. Typically smoothies contain about 60% ripe
fruit mixed with about 40% greens. It provides a great combination for those
looking for a sound fibromyalgia diet. 2. They are easy to digest.
When blended well, most of the cells in the greens & fruits are ruptured making the valuable
nutrients easy for the body to assimilate. Green smoothies literally start to get absorbed
in your mouth. 3. Green smoothies are a complete food.
As opposed to just juices green smoothies are a complete food because they still have
fiber. Well - not that type of fiber.
And as you know consuming fiber is important for your elimination system.
Which brings me to ... 4. They aide digestion immensely.
One of the symptoms of fibro is constipation or having an irritable bowel.
The good news is that you may no longer need to have a Reader's Digest in the bathroom
anymore. Smoothies help to cleanse the bowels, which
is one of the most important things that you can do for your body.
I've noticed that a green smoothie in the morning along with proper hydration throughout
the day seems to do the trick for me. 5. Green smoothies taste great.
Smoothies are among the most palatable dishes for people of all ages.
With a 60:40 ratio of fruit to veggies, the fruit taste dominates the flavor while the
greens balance out the sweetness of the fruit adding a nice zest to it.
You'll experience fewer cravings for sugary or salty processed foods.
There's nothing like breaking free from the bonds of unhealthy snack foods.
6. You may feel an urge to start exercising. Inherently, your body craves to be physically
active. However, processed foods can drain your body
of the much needed energy for activity. By replacing the junk food that you consume
with nutrient dense foods your available energy increases.
The energy boost a green smoothie can give you is amazing.
7. Smoothies help reduce your sugar, salt & fat consumption.
When consuming your greens in the form of smoothies you are greatly reducing the consumption
of sugar, oils & salt in your diet. Over time - you may even notice that you'll
start to shed some of those unwanted pounds. Wouldn't that be great?
8. Regular consumption of green smoothies forms a good habit of eating greens.
After a few weeks of drinking green smoothies most people start to crave & enjoy eating
more greens. Eating enough greens is often a problem with
many people. This can be especially challenging for those
of us with fibromyalgia. By instilling the positive habit of good healthy
eating into your weekly routine you'll discover that your fibro flare-ups will be less frequent
& intense. It sure made a difference in my ability to
cope with my fibromyalgia. There you have it - 8 reasons as to why you
should incorporate green smoothies into your fibromyalgia diet.
And now - let me share with you one of my favorite green drink recipes for you to try.
Once you make it & try it you'll see why I chose these particular ingredients for my
concoction. Without further ado - here's a recipe for
2 servings. In your blender, Vitamix or Magic Bullet combine
the following ingredients. 4 cups of spinach
½ of a medium-sized English cucumber ½ of a small avocado
the juice from 1 medium red grapefruit or 1 ½ cups of sugar-free grapefruit juice
1 small handful of fresh mint leaves 1 to 1 ½ cups of filtered water - depending
on the desired consistency of the smoothie you want.
You may omit this if you're using bottled juice from the store.
Blend everything together on high speed until smooth & creamy.
Then enjoy - it's that simple. Fresh is best.
However, the smoothie will keep in the fridge for a couple of days when properly covered.
If you are not sharing this smoothie with someone special, try taking it to work.
It is a great pick-me-up in the afternoon and also makes a great conversation piece.
Just tell them that Kermit the Frog says "It ain't easy being green."
Who knows - maybe the whole gang at work will get hooked on the benefits of green smoothie.
