Welcome to Wellness and Lifestyles: Staff Injury Prevention.
This session is an overview of injury prevention and management guidelines while in the workplace.
The healthcare and aged care industry is considered to be an extremely high-risk industry.
This is due to: The amount of manual handling involved at work, the trips and falls of residents, and resistive residents.
The statistics are that 1 in 15 people working in aged care sustain an injury in a calendar year.
Most importantly though, over 90 percent of these injuries are accumulative injuries.
Meaning they're due to a build-up of a poor technique.
They’re entirely preventable.
It’s interesting to note that less than 10 percent of these injuries are from a catastrophic incident, such as a one soft trip or fall.
When we look at the statistics; although these are from the few years back--they still ring true today.
The occupations with the highest number of total claims; taking to consideration a personal care assistant, a cleaner, kitchen hand, registered nurse or enrolled nurses.
