Why I don't keep Cichlids in my tanks. (African Cichlids) My opinion-you have yours
Hi people, FishTankTV.om and Dustin's Fish Tanks. Today is Thursday, tomorrow is Friday,
TGIF. That's right, thank God it's Friday. So just chilling, my wife is getting her hair
done and the baby's asleep. Thank you everyone for all of the congratulations on the new
baby. It's exciting—I am tired as a ***, but I had to do a video for you. I wanted
to talk about something. Sniffles, I'm sick, because the kid brings home all the snot.
Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about something. Someone asked me, "Dude, what are you going
to do with cichlid tank?" I'm going to turn this tank into a cichlid tank. And honestly,
I did the reef. I tore the reef down because it wasn't my thing and cichlids really aren't
my thing. And I'll tell you a couple of reasons why.
Listen, and this doesn't mean that I hate cichlids or anything like that, I just don't
keep them. And here's why. One, and most importantly, they're super, super aggressive. So you get
a fish and a couple of weeks later you get another fish. And the fish you had in the
tank for a while just beat the crap out of it. Two, you know, you can't keep plants with
them because they rip them up. So, you know, you put plants in there and they just shred
them to death and plants are my thing. This parallels into three. Three, I like to run
my tanks really balanced and I can't really do that with cichlids. Like one of these tanks.
Like this tank, I can just leave it alone for a while. I could probably leave it alone
for a week and not feed it, not do anything, and it would be fine. Cichlid tank, they would
probably get hungry and eat on each other when they have nothing to nibble on. There's
no plants. So in my opinion, there's no real balance. Ah, yawning. So there's no real balance
for a cichlid tank—unlike these tanks where there's a lot of plants in them.
So those are the three reasons I don't keep cichlids and particularly because they get
large too and then they end up in the pet store. Then you got this huge Oscar that nobody
wants. So. Oscars are cool and they swim up by the tank and see you and stuff like that,
but I don't know, they're not for me. So that's why I don't keep cichlids. This stupid little
light went out, it's actually the bulb. I need to replace it with the better ones anyways,
so. I need to get a fan on there to cool those off. But, um. That's what's going on, that's
my comment on the cichlids. I want to talk about the, uh, these plants
folks. Amazon Swords. Get yourself some Amazon Swords. I just put them down in the dirt.
You can see some really great new growth. Also these crips are just bumping, and I mean
bumping so I am really excited about that. I just want to show you what to look for.
When you have some dead growth that's fine. Some dead growth—some dead leaves. But if
you see all these new leaves coming up with some nice veins in them, that's a healthy
plant right there. You don't have to worry about them. You got some little leaves back
there. See that one right there with the nice vein going up it? You're in good shape when
your leaves look like that. So just sit tight, be patient and they'll grow. So that's what's
going on. There's my pisto, I should probably do a video on them. Look, they just got something
and they just swam up. I'll show, you guys, feeding them. Why not? I haven't done a feeding
video in a while. These rainbows are a lot of fun. The ones above them haven't grown
as well, I don't know if I haven't fed them as well or what the deal is, but check this
out. Man, they're hungry. There you go boys, get down. And no, these bosmanti are not for
sale because I don't want to ship them. If someone gets these and says, "Hey, they're
dead", I don't want to feel like a ***. Something I will tell you, I did find one
of my rainbows from the 220 on the floor the other day and that kind of sucked. So you
do want to have your tank covered. This tank isn't entirely covered, but I'm going to pull
the light forward. So just kind of be leery of that. That sucks. It's something you've
got to watch out for thought with rainbows.
