Most visitors of the library are students and scientists,
but there are also common citizens who just want to read the newspapers.
I like to come to the ifa Library because
they have very competent librarians here
who can give me an answer
to nearly every question I have.
Secondly, there are
selective bibliographies
for many specific topics.
That saves a lot of time.
And this is a service
that I can enjoy here
that they can't offer in other libraries.
The ifa Library is the only library in the world
specialised on literature on foreign cultural policy
and international cultural relations.
Furthermore, we have a large collection of
literature on intercultural communication, on stereotypes
and on the cultural regional geography of different countries.
It is noteable that we evaluate articles pubished in magazines
what other, bigger libraries don't do.
Therefore, our subject cataloguing is very in-depth
and we can offer very much literature on our topics.
In this library I personally appreciate
the very friendly and very cooperative atmosphere.
I appreciate the fact
that the librarians do not only know the usual processes of a library
but are also very competent in their fields of collection.
Seeing that I might say that the staff is somewhat
a body with whom I can discuss on a professional level.
I have realised that the ifa (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations)
endavours to initiate a dialogue between researchers and practitioners.
During the last years, the WIKA (Science Council on Culture and Foreign Policy) has constituted itself as a research group
where scientists of different qualification levels get together
to exchange opinions and to learn about new perspectives
and new key aspects of the current research on foreign and educational cultural policy.
I didn't know the ifa in the first place.
But since I am aware of
what kind of literature I can get here and what the main focus of the collection is
and how profundly the librarians are informed,
I prefer to come here than, for example,
go the the university library,
because I have the feeling that here
everybody feels up to help you.
