in the older days we used to take bone grafts from the pelvis an area around
here
and that was quite uncomfortable for patients we don't have to do that
anymore nowadays we take the bone graft from the area where we do the surgery if
you'll notice on this side the facets here are intact
and if you notice on this side the facets are actually missing
this is the area of the bone graft
that we take in order to get the fusion to occur and it's part of the surgical
level so there's no additional pain
and i'd like to say we're very green and recycle so we take that bone out we
prepare it and use it for the bone graft
we use that bone with the material called BNP or bone morphogenetic
protein and mix it together and it is placed here
here
and within the disc itself here
and that's how we get our fusion
it takes anywhere between four and six months
for most people to heal together
