A quick résumé:
you could say that we've almost finished repairing what's broken.
The deck, the beams, everything has been put back in place on the boat…
Just the two floats are missing…
In short, just the composite work that's all.
After that there will be all the finishing off to be done,
the deck fittings, the winches, the trampolines and the steering system.
It's not a vast amount of work, but there's a fair few things to be done
as regards initial finishing off, coating and all that…
You see me with the sander because I'm going to sand the whole boat.
We're redoing the decoration so we're going to remove the previous paint
in order to save weight and not to put new paint on top of old…
When you sand you are very close to the hull,
so if there's a fault in the carbon or a small crack,
you see it immediately and inform the relevant parties.
That enables you to check over the whole boat.
Knowing the surface of the central hull
and multiplying that by the weight of our paint (which is top secret)
and our finish, which is also top secret,
I'm removing around 7 to 8 kilos, no more…
We're getting more like a boat at the end of construction
in the sense that with practically all the elements of the puzzle,
there are just the two floats remaining as in a normal construction.
We've put on the central hull, the two beams…
Now we're waiting for the two floats and everyone is getting ready to receive them,
whether it be in the domain of deck fittings, painting and electronics…
It's more reminiscent of a construction yard now.
Tomorrow, it's the launch of Banque Populaire V.
We're going to see that in Lorient.
We wish them a great deal of courage and luck
because they're not easy boats to sail and perfect.
We're going along to give them encouragement!
I am the only full-time member of the crew.
I clearly saw what happened, I saw the repairs,
the time it all takes and the damage it did…
Of course you're always keen to head out to sea…
The architects and offices tell us
that the boat was well made and well constructed…
We were really lucky with the capsize
so we'll have to head back out with a little care.
Franck is very fastidious about the weight
and any flaws in the shape.
We've changed some elements, but that's top secret.
The boat will be even lighter, but it's all top secret
so we won't say any more about it….
