To sports now with Tumamao Harawira.
The Golden Boot Award, which was awarded to Benji Marshall,
is given to the best player of the year.
Is that right?
I totally agree, because of his performance in the final
of the Four Nations tournament.
That would be his most beautiful victory, in my view.
Other winners include Mal Meninga, Brett Kenny, Peter Sterling,
Andrew Johns and others.
- Jarryd Hayne?
Jarryd Hayne hasn't won the Golden Boot Award.
- Didn't he win last year? No.
Greg Inglis won it last year.
- Well, you're the expert.
We need to acknowledge this descendant of Tuhoe.
We haven't had a player as skilled and talented as him.
Benji Marshall is the man.
Moving on from league and to squash now.
NZ is playing England
in the final of the Women's World Team Squash Championships.
England were the 1st seeds, so can NZ beat England?
Yes, they can because they have our Ngapuhi princess
who is carving up the competition, our lady Shelley Kitchen.
Joelle King is also on the team.
Maori seem to be natural squash players.
They can, but they have a lot to do at this time.
Tumamao Harawira, thank you for that report.
A Maori girl who is rising to the top of the netball world.
Te Huinga Reo Selby of Ngati Raukawa is that girl.
Her goal is to make the Silver Ferns.
Fruit and vegetables are on the menu for Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickett,
but exercise is a lot more vigorous.
That's my goal for future years.
This descendant of Ngati Raukawa has been named
for the NZ development netball squad next year,
a team which aids in the development of players to make the Silver Ferns.
That's what I hope to do in the future,
but for now I enjoy playing for the Southern Steel.
This seems to be the position for her.
A level attained by Te Huinga this year
after being given a position with the Southern Steel.
She was also fortunate to travel to England with the NZ team
for the Fastnet international competition.
It was a great year.
I played numerous competitions. My legs ache, but that's fine.
However, Te Huinga's greatest concern
for the ANZ tournament next year is playing
with her younger sister Te Paea Selby-Rickett in the Southern Steel.
She is good at teaching me different things,
but I get annoyed with her sometimes,
but I always ring her to go and stay at her place.
The pair now have their sights set on Christmas,
but next year they will be focussed on the game.
Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
I just remembered
Jarryd Hayne actually won the Dally M Medal last year.
Tumamao was right for the first time ever.
Next week, the NZ Maori women's hockey team will gather in Fiji
for the Oceania Cup,
and according to a former member of the team,
she gained her spot in the team through hard work and dedication.
A veteran, of Maori hockey.
But since the birth of her three children,
she has been fighting to get back to her best,
and it has been difficult making a comeback at 37 years of age.
Despite the difficulties, Jan has regained her form,
and she is now making her first trip to Fiji
with the NZ Maori Women's team.
She credits her comeback to her support team.
She has some advice for the younger players climbing the ranks.
There is one thing she is looking forward to the most about her trip.
It is clear that, she is not done yet.
Heta Gardiner, Te Karere.
