Everyone is preparing for the upcoming summer Olympic games. People are dressing in their
favorite countries’ colors, practicing singing their national anthems, and clearing their
scheduled to watch the world’s greatest athletes compete. Everyone has their own favorite
events, be it either swimming, wrestling, or mine, as well as many others, the track
and field events. Well, you now have a way to practice your abilities in track and field
that does not require years of conditioning and training, but rather simply a copy of
International Track & Field for the original playstation.
All of your favorite events are represented here for you to compete in. From the most
popular events like the 100 meter sprint and high jump, to other events that don’t get
as much attention like the javelin throw or the discus. You first enter your name, and
then select the country you want to represent. The country selection is somewhat limited
with only twelve to choose from. There is the United States, Great Britain, France and
Japan but there is no love shown to Italy. Really?
You then try the different events attempting to qualify for the next round. If you beat
your opponents and qualify, the event is the closed until you qualify for the others. And
let me tell you one thing, qualifying is not the easiest thing in the world. You will fail,
and fail and fail, especially in the events requiring perfect timing like the pole vault
and discus. Making the pain of defeat and the joy of victory just that much stronger.
And while you won’t actually have to go outside and train, your fingers will get one
of their best workouts ever. This game takes button mashing to the next level, as each
event requires you to repeatedly press buttons to run faster and jump higher. Your fingers
will be sore after just qualifying. You run by pressing square and circle, and x and triangle
perform the action. You will twist and turn your controller in the most interesting ways
to find the comfort zone for the fastest button mashing. The best recommendation I can give
is to plug in an arcade stick with all the buttons laying flat in front of you. That,
and an industrial size tube of Biofreeze for your sore fingers.
International Track & Field is great for anyone who can’t get enough of the Olympic games
or anyone who is looking to give their finger the best workout of their lives.
