In this video we'll be talking about the needle and the cartridge that connects to the tone
arm, and what actually plays the music from the record. So here I've disconnected the
cartridge from the tone arm. And the cartridge is this black thing right here with the white
needle attached to it. And what the cartridge does is it, it's connected to the needle and
the needle touches the record, sends electrical information to the cartridge, and the cartridge
in turn sends it all the way up through the tone arm, through the turntable, back through
the mixer, and through the stereo. What you're going to want to look for specifically is
a Shore Brand M447 cartridge that is the standard, unequivocal, scratch DJing needle and cartridge
to get. The reason it's the standard is because when you're moving the record back and forth
very assertively, the needle will hold the groove of the record very long. And also,
the needle is designed not to wear the record out quickly, so your records will last longer,
and you won't skip the records very long.
