Hi. I'm Sandy Asirvatham. And I'm ellen cherry.
And we're the co-creators of a new music project called MOBTOWNmoon that's being produced right
here in Baltimore. MOBTOWNmoon will be a unique new version of
Pink Floyd's classic album, Dark Side of the Moon.
In honor of that record's upcoming 40th anniversary,we are writing beautiful new arrangements of
these beloved songs, using the sounds of contemporary rock, jazz, hiphop and classical music. Our
recording and performances will feature more than a dozen great Baltimore-based musicians.
Names that you know already and names that you will know.
And you can be a part of it, too. We've partnered with The Hearing and Speech Agency's Baltimore
Soundscape Project. Together with HASA, we invite Baltimore citizens and visitors of
all ages to help us record the quintessential sounds of Charm City.
It could be a foghorn in the Inner Harbor, or an arabber selling fruit. It could be a
noisy, chaotic place, like an emergency room on a Saturday night or a quiet moment in Druid
Hill Park. The five best sounds will be featured on our
MOBTOWNmoon recording, just the way Pink Floyd used layers of sound effects in the original
album. All you need is some sort of recording device,
like your cell phone or an mp3 recorder and a way to upload the sound to a computer. If
you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch,we have a special app that makes the process
really easy. By being included on our MOBTOWNmoon CD, the
winners of the sound contest become a part of Baltimore's music history. But all participants
will helping HASA build a lively, colorful, fascinating map of our city's unique soundprint.
For more information and a list of soundclip ideas to get you started, you can go to www.mobtownmoon.com/soundscape.
The contest runs from May 15 to June 30. So get out there in the sunshine...
or the moonlight... and start recording!
