Cranial Sacral Massage Therapy Technique, Full Body & Back Rub Demonstration 8
>>ATHENA: This is Athena Jezik
and we're going to do another one on the low back.
There's a little bit of pain that is happening here
in the low back area. It's more of a tension pain.
It's not a sciatica. So, I'm just going to
show you what I would do for this type
of situation, working just in the low back,
the S.I. joints, coming up about there,
and also getting a little bit of cranial technique,
I also work with that as well.
There is probably a little bit of an impaction happening.
So what I'm going to start with is getting a feel
for where the tension points are over the sacrum,
[pause]
And just see what positions this wants to go into
and how it wants to turn itself, twist itself out of it
[Athena massages lower back and sacrum]
Now that's the very low back, this area here,
the lumbar region, is also more of a mid-low back,
and that's a good piece to include,
because L5 and S1 sit right next to each other.
There's a lot of bending and twisting
and work that comes out of this area of the body.
It's good to take care of it.
Here I'm going to be putting my fingers
on either side of the low part of the sacrum
right between the sacrum and coccyx
and give a little traction
that will be pushing downward,
towards the feet, right at that joint.
That's going to give a little space there.
The coccyx will often times have
a little compression going on.
The coccyx does move.
There is a little joint there.
You can feel it move pretty dramatically when
you know what to feel for.
Often times you will find that
the coccyx will do a lot of twisting and turning.
It seems to be one of the most gymnastic type vertebrae.
It definitely takes a lot of different turns and twists.
It's the very end of the cranial sacral system.
I'm going to just follow it around a little bit
to see where it is going to go
continuing to put that traction on it.
Then it softens,
and you know that it has already made its change,
it will soften and kind of push your hand away,
and your muscles here are already
much softer than they were before
and push right through here,
into the gluteus area.
That pain can be caused from things
going on in the organs,
and sometimes sciatica is caused from
having a very full bowel.
I'm pressing into the nerve.
Very few people check that out.
A sciatica person comes in,
somebody suffering from sciatica,
and very few people will check
the position of the organs.
That feels nice and soft.
A little traction on the sacrum
and that's sliding around a little bit,
finding its position.
Ok, and with that it feels like it's a bit softer,
and if the pain doesn't go away immediately
it may take twelve to forty eight hours
to completely process into the new position.
It's called tissue reorganization.
Everything alternative has a process time
because we are working with the body to get
the body to work for us. We are not masking it
or trying to control it.
It's an entirely different way to approach
feeling good.
