Begin, by opening a desired file for editing in one of 3 ways.
First, Right-Click an image file and be prompted to 'Edit with GIMP'
Second, Left-Click and hold to drag the file into the open GIMP program
Last, select 'File' and choose 'Open' to navigate to your desired file.
To open additional image files use the 'Open as Layers' option.
Or alternatively Left-Click and hold to drag and drop-in additional files.
The Zoom Percentage can be changed using the drop down box located at the bottom of the
window. When the necessary image files are added,
the canvas size will need to be increased. Do so by selecting 'Image' followed by 'Canvas
Size'. In the 'Set Image Canvas Size' window ensure
the 'Chain Link' button is disconnected. Add additional size to only the height parameter
in multiples of 32. When finalized select the 'Resize' button
to confirm. Next select the 'Move Tool' from the toolbox.
To move a layer, Left-Click on any image and hold to drag it into place.
To be accurate a grid can be applied to the graphic.
Display a grid over your image by selecting 'View' then 'Show Grid'
To alter the grid dimensions select 'Image' then 'Configure Grid'.
Change the height and width to a value of 32.
Once finished Left-Click the 'OK' button to confirm the changes.
Use the move tool to reposition the new layer at the bottom of the background layer.
Now that the tilesets are lined up, more space on the canvas is needed.
The overall canvas size can be seen at the top of the window.
Add more room to the canvas using the same method as before.
When the canvas is the appropriate size, the layers will need to be merged together.
Right-Click a layer and select the 'Merge Down' option. Repeat as needed.
To remove extra undesired canvas height you may select 'Image' then 'Fit Canvas to Layers'
When finished, save by selecting 'File' then 'Save As'.
Save using an extension that supports transparency.
