Hey I'm Chris from musicradar.com and we're here with John Culter sort of one of the organisers
in a way of Magnetic Festival, so tell us about Magnetic, where it came from and how
you got involved. >>The basic idea started 4 or 5 years ago,
when we were travelling around the world we saw so many events, festivals indoor or even
outdoor festivals and we decided to build or try to build something new which is not
even there. >>Because these events don't exist that often
in the Czech Republic do they? >>No, the thing is we wanted to build something
different. So we started with the idea to build the club in the big hall, exhibition
hall, this place and thats, there you are. >>So what kind of capacity are we talking,
about 10,000 or something like that? >>Yeah, it's about 10,000 people exactly.
So we don't want to be bigger because this is a more intimate kind of event let's say
with 10,000 people, because when you see so many bigger events all of them are the same;
a big stage, a big crowd and that's it so we wanted to make a change or make something
a little different so we built big terraces there and we built the club inside the hall.
>>So when was the first one? >>It was 2012.
>>And was that as successful as this or has it built in success as a brand?
>>Actually we were kind of surprised because the 1st event was the same capacity as this
one so from the 1st episode it was completely full so we were blown away with the success
and we're lucky to continue now. >>So how long does it take to organise something
of a 10,000 capacity? >>Half a year on each event because we do
this event every 6 months so yeah it's half a year.
>>And how long of that is artist related? Does that take a long time to organise because
you know we've got Sander Van Doorn, Steve Aoki.
>>Actually we're dealing with booking agencies, we are in contact throughout the year because
we are making the deals for next year even for next events so it's like long term work
with them all together. >>Tell us about the company you're involved
with because this was an empty hall and now it looks like a nightclub, how long does this
take to install I mean...? >>Basically 3 to 4 days non-stop work, we
have about 160 people working non-stop and they are building all terraces, sound systems,
stages. >>And how many different companies, is it
one company that does everything? >>No it's about 6 or 7 different companies working together.
>>Ok and do you see it leaving this venue? >>Yeah that's the point we are getting so
many requests from other countries to expand and do basically the same thing as Sensation
does so travel around Europe and we're not sure whether it is the right time or when is the right time because we have to find
the right venues to build it. >>That's what makes it unique isn't it, because
it's quite easy to put, well not easy but you can put a tent up in a field and
call it a festival but this is an indoor nightclub with nightclub style facilities.
>>It's basically all big events around the globe, they are done in arenas, big arena
style but we are in an exhibition hall, this is the difference. We have very low celings
like 9 or maximum 10m and it makes the energy inside, it's like a club.
>>So we're sort of live from the event right now but if people want to come to the next
Magnetic Festival when do you think the next one will be?
>>It will be basically the same as last year, so like December.
>>December. Magnetic at Christmas. >>Definitely.
>>And do we know any of the names yet, are you talking to anybody?
>>Actually I know the names but I can't say anything, it will be a big surprise.
>>Ok, so what, even bigger and better? >>Even better than now yeah.
>>Ok, well thanks very much John.
