My name is Barry Chaim and I am the Founder
and the Owner of the Edo Group of Restaurants.
We've been on the street for 27 years and
in this current location, this is our 14th year. When we started, there were 45
Japanese restaurants in Toronto, 27 years ago; and today there is over a thousand
providing various kinds of Japanese food.
I had [the] sense to went to [a]
competition and many chance and opportunity make [me] more a fan of
cuisine. And right now,
I am proud about my work
and what I am always looking for [is] that smile
from the guest. So that is why I am working hard.
High-end restaurant and fine dining restaurant,
you know, usually they charge upscale [prices].
But [at] this time, during Winterlicious and Summerlicious
[you] have to have a set menu, like $35 dollars or $25 dollars.
For the chefs, [it] looks like competition; like, what I can do, what I can do the best.
And the clients come here to take picture and enjoy the
meal, I should put more effort for them into the presentation
and so on.
Because Winterlicious and Summerlicious made me,
you know, [appreciate this] kind of passion. Toronto has amazing,
diverse cuisine culture and there are many, many
restaurants and we are very fortunate to have many
nationalities here in numbers
that provide a basis of good culinary skills.
