If you want to visit the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, I'm going to tell you the easy way to get same-day tickets.
HELLO! Welcome to Trip Hacks DC. My name is Rob.
I'm a tour guide here in the nation's capital. If you're coming to Washington DC
and you're looking for the best tips, tricks, and hacks for exploring the city, make sure to subscribe to this channel and hit the bell
notification icon so that you don't miss any new videos. And if you're interested in a private tour, head on over to TripHacksDC.com
afterwards, to see the tours that I offer. This is the first video in my new "Quick Hacks" series,
which are short videos that give you a single,
simple hack that you can use on your trip to DC. The Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture opened in September of
2016 and I can personally say that it is an amazing museum that is
absolutely worth a visit. That said, it's still very new and very
popular, so unlike the other museums on the National Mall, you can't just wander in whenever you want to go. Eventually that will change,
but for now you need a free
timed ticket. The good news is that they're fairly easy to get. The bad news is that you have to wake up early to do it.
Every morning at approximately 6:30 a.m.
tickets for the day are released on the museum website, and they go quickly. I'm not kidding about this, usually by 7:00 a.m.
the tickets for the entire day are already gone.
I'll leave a link to that website in the video description so you can bookmark it and have it ready during your trip. The easiest
way to do this is on your phone, since almost everyone will have a phone with them while they're traveling.
But you can also use a computer if you'd like, the process is exactly the same,
just on a bigger screen. On the morning of the day that you want to visit,
navigate to the web site, scroll down a little bit, and click "check same day
availability" - that will take you to the eTix vendor website
where you can choose the time of day that you want to visit. Find the time that works the best for you and then click
on the green
"register" button right below it. On the next page
you'll select the number of tickets that you want, up to four, and then click
"I'm not a robot" and finally the green
"register" button. The next page will confirm the date and time for your visit and show a subtotal of
$0. Print-at-home will be the only delivery option,
but it's a little misleading,
as you don't actually have to print the tickets, you can show them on your phone when you arrive. Click the green
"continue" button. On the final confirmation page
you'll enter your email address, name, zip code, and phone number, agree to the terms and the registration policy and click on the green
"register" button to finish. After you check out, check your email
and you'll see the tickets. Just bring those with you on your phone at your assigned time. And that's it!
