We're throwing a vase and right now we're about to open the pot. To do this some people
like to use their fingers. I personally like to use my thumbs. You're just going to come
on the top of the pot here and you're going to find the center. You've just got to let
your thumbs find that center. You can see that and feel it. Then you want to get some
water in there and just push your thumbs into it. Now, you'll; you'll kind of get to understand
your hands and how they are, because you want this; you want this to be about half an inch
on the bottom of this pot. That's going to be the feel; you're going to; you're just
going to kind of know it's there when you get there; trial and error. Now, you're going
to do what's called the claw. You're going to take this hand. You're going to grip this
pot like this. You're actually going to open it up and prepare it for the walls to be pulled
up. So, we're going to get nice and wet, because you don't want friction- it knocks the pot
off center. We're going to just pull this out. So, this hand is kind of going underneath
and hooking into it. You're finding it with this hand on this side, and then just clawing
it. That'll open up the pot. See how that's going? Now, we've got the; now we've got the
centered piece of clay open. The next part of throwing a vase is to pull the walls up.
We're going to do that next.
