I came into this room, it was a rather dreary kind of gray
beige background with a big black hole at the end.
So I thought, what can I do to make this perky and make this
exciting, rather than do the typical leather wing chairs
and dark tapestries and deep colored velvets?
I thought, I want to make it happy and fun.
So even on a gloomy day, it looks alive.
So I mixed red, white, and blue with yellow throw pillows
and some simple Roman shades.
And rather than fill a whole bookcase filled with books
that no one ever really reads, I thought why not put a
porcelain collection in?
So that it's not just staid and dark and dreary.
Even these little modern tables that I did, I had them
made in iron.
I took them to my auto body shop and had them sprayed
Ferrari red, just to give it a shock of color.
Because I thought it needed something to lift it up.
Even the lamp shades, they're just plain white linen.
Inexpensive.
Actually got them at Target.
$19 apiece.
On very expensive cast bronze lamps.
But I wanted something that was young and not your typical
depressing, dark, traditional, uninteresting room.
So now you have a comfortable red, white, and blue room that
doesn't read like the 4th of July.
