>> Dylan: My name is Dylan Galos I'm from Las Cruces, New Mexico
and I am a doctoral student in the Department of Epidemiology
and Community Health at the University of Minnesota.
Public health is important to me because I think that we need
to be able to give interventions and access to healthcare to --
give access to preventative medicine to people
who can't always afford to go to the doctor.
I think public health is important because it allows us
to improve societies health in a larger scale
than we can doing things individually
and it implies a lot of good things for social justice.
I chose epidemiology because it allows me
to ask the most interesting research questions
and as a former biology student I really enjoy the ability
to ask these questions without doing animal research
and being able to use math and statistics and being able
to do observational studies because that's
where a lot of my interest lies.
I chose Minnesota because it offered me a really high
quality education.
I felt really good about the people I'm going to be working
with in the department here,
and I really enjoy the Twin Cities whenever I got to visit;
they're beautiful and there's a lot of things
about the environmental aspects of this city that I like a lot.
I ride my bike.
I like to go spend time outdoors, go hiking.
I like to go play music, I play the trombone, and I like to go
to theater, opera, concert-like music and to travel.
