Rafael Rabec
is a self taught artist
who began as an artist in the 1960's
he traveled across Europe
studying in the fine arts in Paris and Italy
there he attended seminaries in Avant-garde art
and contemporary furniture design
his formal training is in civil engineering
a graduate of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)
but his artistic vein was latent throughout those years
until he decided to opt for painting, as his expression of life
it was not until after
Spain and France
that I began my attempt to communicate with others
every single thing is an experiment
sometimes I am successful on the purpose, that is when I make a big series
Rabec is a very versatile artist
he explores a variety of themes, in 1985 after the earthquake that shaked Mexico City
he conceived a work that details the experience of life
that spinned off into a series where the theme was 'death'
his creative source is personal experience
or that which impacts on the conscience of The Creator, he who has given life to many different beings
there are many times where I have worked
on the problems of Mexico, be it
the basic problems of poverty and protest
Rafael Rabec
has recently finished an exhibition at the hall of mining
where the main theme was: The Cosmos
he was invited by Rodolfo Rivera to take part in our exhibition
"Contrapunto 2"
It is a theme that occurs daily
in the newspapers, in the magazines and in every movement, daily it's there
you don't notice it but when you are looking for it then you notice it
it is exhilarating to read about become acquianted with
the millions of
kilometres that we are far away from these things and it's exhilarating
to know of the size difference
that we have between us on earth and nebulae
Alejandro Becerril
in an essay about the works
points out that Rabec's "Cosmos" has deciphered galaxies, supernovas, planets
moons
the sun's cosmic radiation
or simple displays or far away stars or of stars like the sun
this last example of majestic representation
has meaning not only to the artist but to all of us
this invites reconciliation between our surroundings, ourselves and the cosmos
