this is Qanthelas on the PhoenixRealms Minecraft server with a little introduction video for
the VirtualChest plugin. You ever have of those times where you've been mining along
and you realize that
you're not picking up the blocks anymore because you're out of inventory space
the way that inventory works in Minecraft it can't be a little bit limiting so checking
out the inventory
all full up
so that's where VirtualChest comes in - it gives you a whole
chest worth of storage space
without actually having a chest anywhere; it's just a little virtual envelope - a
bag of holding of sorts.
So, there's a couple ways to access it but let's try the
commands first
/gp is the
little intro part for all of the commands - so here's the list of all things that we can do it.
Note that we can
select all of our different chests. We've got all the different options.
So I've already got three chests set up right now and note that as an admin you can go and
change these configurations so you can set
if you want to use this with iConomy - which I'm doing - you can set how much it costs to
buy a chest - to buy a small one or a large one -
and you can also set fees for opening the chest in case you don't want it to be quite
as powerful you can set a fee to open it
and you can also transfer items between players via the chests but we'll get to that
in a bit (and you can set a fee on that if you want) but with just the chests I have it set so
that there is no fee to open but the chests themselves are fairly expensive
and as of version 3.3.1 of
VirtualChest
you don't get a little message saying that it
costs zero coins to open anymore so thanks for the fix on that. So let's take a look inside
the default chest...
...and here we are, a whole empty chest ready for me to just plop my cobblestone into.
Freeing up a whole bunch of space.
Alright, so now I'm able to pick up all of this cobblestone that was around on the floor.
So, what else can we do? Well, you can have several chests - you can set in the config file how many chests
a person can have or with admin powers you can override that and
give them a number of chests for a maximum,
as many as you want or as few as you want if they've been a very bad person.
Here's how you cycle between your chests
you can type in the name of the chest and...
in the /gp c like this...
and here's my second chest.
Or, if you want it so that when you just hit /gp c
it'll only go to one chest, so if you want to change your default here's how you do it
As it says up here
We've got list, buy...
We're looking for 'set' or 'default' so /gp set Q2
So now it's the default for q2
so now if i type /gp c it'll open up a q2 instead of q1
and to list out all of your chests - if you can't remember a chest's name and you need to open it, don't worry you can /gp list
and there's the chest that I have right now
Alright, another way if you don't really like messing with commands all the time, they put in
a nice little shortcut so that if you left click while you're holding a chest it'll open
up your default chest - let's check that out.
So here's the chest, left click
and here it's opened up what I set as the default q2.
Those are the main features, we can also mess a little bit with the features of for sending
to another person.
Back out on the surface, so brought back up the list of all the VirtualVhest (also known as
GiftPost, that's why the 'gp' by the way)
Brought up all of the VirtualChest commands and so note, when we send it sends the contents of your
currently selected chest
to
the player's chest - it's case sensitive.
So at this point I believe it sends the whole thing... so I've got some admin things in
my default chest - like some lava blocks - I don't really want to go sending those, so let's make a new chest
that I'll send to somebody
So we've got
the /gp b or buy as it says up here
and then larger or normal - gonna make this a large chest (so this'll be the same as you
know two chest's right next to eachother or a double chest block
and
then we have to give it a name, so this'll be q3
And here we are, you can see it shows what it cost - I have it set in the config file to cost
400 coins for a large chest and it's all setup and ready to go.
So let's open it up!
Alight so here's our new chest, gonna put a couple stacks of cobblestone in here...
and now let's send it to one of the other people on this server.
Going to do /gp
send
and, just to be on the safe side, let's make that the default chest first.
Note that it's...it wasn't particularly case sensitive, Q3 with the Q upperase or lower
case it seems to put them all into lower case at least right now - that might change eventually -
but here let's get this shot.
First, let's see if there's any additional
healp information for /gp send
Nope, no such luck there.
So, SegmentFault is one of the other people on this server, let's try this out.
Alright so, since he's not online right now we get the little message that he's not offline
so he'll get it when he connects.
And, you can set that to be disabled so that you cannot send to people who are offline, that's one
of the config options if you're interested in that... and let's see now what's in my q3 chest.
Now remember, since we made it the default chest I can just left click with this chest out in my
inventory, er, in my hands
And here we are, nothing in q3 so it moved that cobblestone on over and SegmentFault will wonder
why he has some extra cobblestone when he logs back in, but that's how that part works.
And you can set that fee - you might have noticed that popped up something about 50 coins, you can
change that and even set it to the zero, or set it to something outrageously high - the nice thing
is
you can also set how far away the players can be from each other in order to send to
each other that way
if you have a very large world (or perhaps a couple of worlds)
you can set it so that they cannot send to each other when they're super far away if
you don't want to be able to, but if you do want them to be able to, not to worry, you can just sat the little
part that goes looking for the distance to 'false'
and a there you go! They can send anywhere no matter where they are on the server , and you can even set it
so that no matter if they're offline, online you can still to them.
So there's lots of great features here, there's also some features in with mcMMO -
I don't have a whole lot going with that so might try a different tutorial video on that
later - but it basically lets you create a chest for your party, so that way all of you can share a
little loot chest there and then split it up later when you get back
and on have to worry about whoever's carrying the loot dying. Oh, there's SegmentFault, just logged in,
so I'll let him know why he's got some extra cobblestone
so hold on a sec...
This has been Qanthelas on the PhoenixRealms Minecraft server with a little intro video to
Dark_Balor's
VirtualChest plugin for Bukkit for Minecraft.
This was recorded on Minecraft 1.4_01 with Bukkit 670
and VirtualChest 3.3.1.
And hey, if you think that you could do a better video like this, I won't take it personally!
Go ahead! Give it a shot! There's a lot of plugins out there that could use some tutorial videos
and
the people who are plugin developers, they're giving it a lot of their time and I'm not much
of a programmer (and maybe you aren't either) so
one thing that we can do is help give some documentation and some videos - and maybe some wikis - to
help people
get the most out of
the creations that these plugin developers have spent so much of their time on! So thanks
for checking this out and you can see I'm working on some other videos,
and if you want to do some videos try something like FRAPS - that's what I made this video
with -
and have at it! Good luck and good hunting!
This is Qanthelas, signing out.
