Hi everyone, I'm Greg Eleftheriou and welcome to this video.
Today we' re going to talk about pedal point. So, first of all 'what is a pedal point' ?
The pedal point is a sustained tone that lasts over a melody, over a chord progression
and to use our guitar language, over a riff.
In our guitar we can use many things as pedal point, and first of all we can use open strings.
So, here comes Example #1.
What I did in this example, was that I just used the thirds over E natural minor,
and I kept playing my low E string. So, without the low E string, it would be like this...
And so on, but the low E string and in general the pedal point gives tension. Listen to that...
You can feel that it has more intensity there.
Right now, I'm going to use my high E string as a pedal point, so here comes Example #2.
Of course I can use many other things as a pedal point, for example I can use an octave.
So in Example #3, I'll use B octave and I'm going to change the chords on my low E string.
Here comes Example #3.
In addition to all of that, I can use many other things as a pedal point.
With my band, Scar Of The Sun, we used a power chord as a pedal point in one of our new tracks.
So, it was like this...
You see the power chord, and we are changing the chords on the low E string.
You can use a chord, a full chord as a pedal point. For example, I'll play for you an Asus2,
and I'm going to add a bass line on the low E string. So, here it is...
So, I was playing an Asus2 and a bass line to make the chord progression move.
Of course, you can use the technique of pedal point for the bass.
I mean, you can have the bass playing one single note and leave the chord progression to the guitars.
Or if you're making backing vocals you can do that and have the backing vocals singing one note,
while the basic vocal line is singing etc.
It's a very useful technique I'm in love with that, I really like it and I hope you find it useful as well.
So, that was all. Tabs and everything are on the description area.
Feel free to check it out and thank you very much for watching this video.
