Welcome to Atlantic Dermatology. I'm Dr. Crane, a dermatologist with Atlantic Dermatology,
and I'm here to talk about Spider Veins. Spider Veins are small little blood vessels and they
can come up on the face, cheeks, chest, legs...really anywhere on the body. Lets talk about the
face first of all. Many people have Rosacea or redness and bumps and pimples on the cheeks
and along with this Rosacea you could get these spider veins or red lines over your
face. And if you have a lot of spider veins or broken blood vessels over your face, laser
technology has come a long way and with laser technology, we're often able to just trace
out those spider veins with the laser. And the laser puts out a burst of light energy
that literally heats up the blood in the blood vessels. When it heats up the blood in the
blood vessels, it scorches the walls of the blood vessels and then your body just gradually
dissolves them away. Typically on the legs, we'll do something called sclerotherapy and
sclerotherapy is the injection of a concentrated salt solution into these blood vessels. And
when we inject the salt solution into the blood vessels, the walls of the blood vessels
get irritated, stick together, and then your body gradually dissolves them away. So if
you have unwanted blood vessels of the legs, sclerotherapy is an excellent option, and
if you have unwanted blood vessels of the face, the laser is an excellent option. So
any problems you're having with unwanted blood vessels, then see your dermatologist.
