KISS frontman says Prince's legacy would become 'even bigger' across time
GENE Simmons has called Prince's death "pathetic".
The KISS frontman said Prince was miles "above" his musical peers including Michael Jackson, making his death all the more frustrating.
"His drugs killed him. What do you think, he died from a cold?" he told Newsweek Europe.
"I think Prince was heads, hands and feet above all the rest of them. I thought he left [Michael] Jackson in the dust.
"Prince was way beyond that. But how pathetic that he killed himself. Don't kid yourself, that's what he did.
"Slowly, I'll grant you ... but that's what drugs and alcohol is: a slow death."
Nonetheless, the Detroit Rock City said Prince's legacy would outlive the way he died.
"Your legacy becomes even bigger, you become more iconic, if you die before your time - Marilyn Monroe, Elvis [Presley] and all that," he said.
"They capture the youth."
The 66 year old also spoke of the differences between Prince and David Bowie, who died in January after losing his cancer battle.
"Bowie was the most tragic of all because it was real sickness," he said.
"All the other ones were a choice."
