If you are offered further tests you will be given an appointment at your local breast unit.
You can take a friend or a relative with you to this appointment.
You can expect to be examined by a specialist doctor or a specially trained breast care nurse.
You will have further investigations such as a further mammogram or an ultrasound using
harmless soundwaves.
In some women, a sample of tissue or cells called a needle biopsy will be taken, and
these cells are sent to a specialist doctor named a pathologist to look for cancer cells.
Waiting for the results of your test can be an anxious time. You can be given the contact
number for your breast care nurse, or you may wish to contact the national charities
Breast Cancer Care or Macmillan Cancer Support.
