Product news 2012
We searched for a product in the GPS sector
which is possibly cheaper than
the usual 500, 600 or 700 €
We found it on Garmin: the Edge 200
As you can see it is no huge gadget
but something small and handy.
It provides the same features
most people expect
from a standard sized system
You for example load a predefined
route via a portal like Garmin Connect
and load it via USB
on this Garmin Edge 200
and you have your distance profile
with all the coordinates
directly on your gear.
You can take a bicycle mount
on your steering bar,
click on "track".
I dont have saved routes here,
but you can start your ride.
The gear shows now in which direction to go,
and where to turn on your bicycle tour.
This gear has also a track back feature:
You never
get lost!
When you park your car somewhere
and start a tour with your bike,
you can just push a button and the Garmin Edge
leads you back to your car.
One advantage is the GPS gear does not only
show my actual position, it also calculates
actual speed and distances.
For this I just click here on "Fahrt" and see my
actual speed, stopwatch and many other features.
It is all in one gear and you do not need
a seperate sensor, which usualy is mounted
between fork and spokes
to measure your speed.
There are loads of additional features.
All of this is compatible with other GPS formats
you can load from the internet.
The Garmin Edge 200 as shown here
as a complete package costs about 149 €.
I think it is an affordable price for this gear.
On my bike I do not need a fancy
colour display. The Edge brings all the
features I expect from a GPS gear.
