Our top story this morning... South Korea, the U.S. and Japan have agreed
to hold a trilateral summit next week on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in
The Hague. Presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook told
reporters within the last hour that Seoul's Foreign Ministry will officially announce
the plan Friday afternoon... confirming an earlier Japanese report that the summit would
be going ahead. The Japanese daily, Yomiuri Shimbun, reported
the three countries are already working on fine-tuning the agenda with the North Korean
nuclear issue likely to top the talks. The reports says the issue of the Japanese
military's wartime use of sex slaves will not be discussed.
The summit will mark the first formal talks between President Park Geun-hye and Japanese
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The meeting could signal a thaw in relations
that have been frayed over a range of historical and territorial issues.
We'll bring you further details in our next newscast at noon, Korea time.
