Hello, I'm Carolyn, and welcome to my humble abode. As you can see, I have
a very spacious room, and that's because I'm an RA here on campus. I'm in Stewart Dorm here,
and I'm going to be starting my second year as an RA here in Stewart. What's really
nice--well, there's lots of fun things about it--but you get a double single room.
I really like being an RA in this dorm because it's a substance-free dorm/wellness themed hall,
so you're not allowed to bring in any alcohol or drugs. But, we also have, like,
we read The Omnivore's Dilemma last year as a whole book club, which was really fun
because it's another way to get people together. And then we have a gym downstairs,
and we lead volunteer trips. So, lots of fun stuff in this dorm. I really like the themed community.
I'm from San Francisco. Well, not really; I'm from a suburb of San Francisco, but I figure
I should just say that I'm from San Francisco because people know where that is.
That was from an AIDS walk. I really like to get involved with AIDS activism and,
in pursuing that, I'm a sociology/anthropology major, which is really cool because I like
that the school combines the two because I like aspects of each one. So, that's pretty cool,
and hopefully that's preparing me for a career in public health. So that's what
I'm doing. And then I'm also a music minor, but that one's mostly just for fun, so, yeah!
And then this here was actually passed down to me just this year as a legacy gift
for the Christian group on campus, called Agape. It's just like these banners that some
of the students made, and they pass it on year after year to new student leaders.
So, it's kind of cool, it's my turn now.
I wanted to go to a small, liberal school, so I was looking along the West coast.
And I really didn't like southern California and I didn't want to live there, and I've always
liked the Pacific Northwest and, I mean, it's gorgeous here and there's so much to do all around,
and Portland in particular. So, the city was helpful. And then I came and visited
Lewis & Clark and just really liked the campus.
So here are posters from my concerts I've been in. I try to collect each one that I have
to just sort of build the wall. So you can see there's a lot of a cappella concerts
because I'm in one of the on-campus a cappella groups. And then this is from a performance
of Mozart's Requiem that we did
with the big college choir, which was a lot of fun.
I found that once I got involved in a cappella - in particular, I would say -
and then other little groups on campus, and then, specifically, becoming an RA has really tied
me with a lot of people on campus. I've just found a great group of friends. And also,
of course, the professors. There's one professor who's helping me with some research stuff right now,
and I don't know that I could get that anywhere else because it's just like
they're really motivated to, I don't know, just showing interest in something I want to do,
and it's really cool that I'm being supported in that way. Yeah...I like it here.
It's great!
