We're talking about install and planting trees out here in the Hill Country with the rock and limestone that we're dealing with.
What we do usually, since you can't dig a hole if you have a lot of solid rock down below, a shelf layer
is basically you can 'pocket plant'
and you plant your tree as deep as you can get and then raise soil
to create a raised bed, that's what you want to do
A lot of times on a raised bed we'll add soil in the area,
plant the tree and then add boulders or rocks
or a type of limestone border around it to contain it
On one gallon plants you only need about six to eight inches of soil realistically to plant the plant
on a five-gallon plant, the bigger buckets you need about twelve, fourteen inches
of soil to plant it, if it's planted on solid rock that would still work, as long as you have good soil
around the plant base itself
And of course water is very important at the beginning, just keep it very wet the first three or four weeks
