Hello people, welcome here! Let's see how to make a simple PiP effect in
Pinnacle Studio 17.
Leave comments to improve our videos.
The Picture in Picture effect, also called PiP, is an effect where a picture appears
smaller within your project.
We won't see here transitions or other effects. If you are interested in them,
watch the related video in this guide.
To make this effect, you simply need to place the picture in an higher track and
then make it smaller. This is very simple. Just double-click on the picture to
open the Editor window. Then, you have two different ways to obtain PiP.
On top, choose Pan and Zoom, in Static mode. Then, just use the grey nodes
on the edges to enlarge such contours. If you check the Preview, you will see that
the picture is becoming smaller. The vacant zones are the ones not occupied by the
picture, respect to the original size. Click and drag inside to place the picture
correctly, checking the Preview. Check better clicking in Transition In section
to see how the picture is with your whole project in the background. Then come back
to Pan and Zoom to adjust all again. This is maybe the fastest way to obtain
PiP, however, this works on pictures only, that do have a Pan and Zoom section.
In case you want to apply this effect on videos, you need to add a specific effect.
Double-click on the video, and go to Effects section, and then to 2D-3D. If you
browse, you will find some effects related to PiP. The most complete one is called
Studio PiP. So simply click on it to add it more on the right.
At this point, the preview shows you that the video is already appearing smaller on
your main project. Through the options on the right, you can set the crop,
the placement through Position, the zoom through Size, and add any border,
shadow or Opacity. This Studio PiP effect works on both pictures and videos,
and it is indeed more complete.
When you are done, just click on OK.
You can put more pictures at the same time. In this case each picture must have its
own track, always higher than the rest of your project, and each one must be set
through Pan and Zoom or through the Studio PiP effect for their size and
placement.
