We got a chance to check out the Kerry microphone by Bill Powers of the
Powers Microphone Company
The Kerry is a large diaphragm tube condenser mic and
it comes with its own power supply,
shock mount and cable with a seven prong connector.
One of the unique features with this mic is it's variable polar patterns selector
which enables it to be set not only to cardioid, figure 8 and omnidirectional,
but also to various degrees in between.
We used to Kerry on acoustic guitar and the results really fantastic.
The mic did a great job of capturing the subtle detail of the instrument and
I was especially impressed with the balance between high and low strings
due to the Kerry's even frequency response.
For vocals the results were really quite special.
The Kerry added a feeling of warmth that perfectly complemented the bluesy, intimate
vibe of the song
Overall we are very impressed with the Kerry.
We feel that rivals some of the best German mics and is an exceptional value.
The mic is very balanced throughout the frequency spectrum
and imparts a sense of depth
and warmth that is very desirable in the recording
process.
