Because a number of Black Studies have been closed or
morphed into ethnic studies, et cetera, so there have been
a lot of intellectual battles going on about the relevance
of Black Studies, not even my experiences here at PC,
where students are like what's in that for me,
so the thought of, how do you make this relevant to
a community that sometimes espouses this notion of colorblindness.
Again, the challenge is to get people not to think about it
on an individual level, but to see it more at an institutional or
systemic level. So that is the challenge, to get individuals
to recognize that, yes we're all human, however, the
construction of race is still very much relevant and to
determine what happens not just on an individual level
but on a group level.
