Hi everyone! It's Loka from Loka's World for a brand new recipe!
Today, a very special recipe !
This week is Youtube Geek Week and today is Japanamania day
so we will make... sushi!!
Do you hear me?
We will make sweet sushi
perfect for dessert or tea time, amazingly fresh for this summer!
We will make our sweet sushi in two steps.
First, we'll cook sweet creamy rice...
It's gonna be delicious... Believe me.
Then, we'll cook chocolate thin pancakes (french crepes)
to wrap the rice and make maki-zushi rolls.
Cooking a sweet and creamy rice is really easy!
Bring 1 cup of whole or semi-skimmed milk to a boil
adding 5 full tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.
Then, add 1/2 cup of sushi round rice to make a dozen of sushi
Reduce heat to low and let it simmer during 15 to 20 minutes
stirring every 3 minutes to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
After that, turn off the heat and let the rice sit well covered for 20 minutes.
Step 2 : to create the fake seaweed (nori) sheets wrapping the maki rolls,
we will make chocolate thin pancakes (french crepes)!
Mix 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
and add 1 cup of milk, only half the milk first and I'll explain why.
OOOOOONE half...
Adding only half the milk first, you will more easily get rid of the lumps.
There's less milk so they can't swim to escape
and you can very easily mash their head against the inside of the bowl...
When your batter is perfectly smooth, add the other half of the 250 ml of milk, to wit...
125 ml... No, 105 ml, sorry!
And we will make french crepes !!
Make sure you brown only on side of each pancake
so the outer layer of your maki rolls will be perfectly smooth and even, like sheets of nori!
Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium high heat
and give the batter a stir, take it out of its house,
put it on the dance floor and make it turn and turn!
Don't you smell these amazing chocolate notes? No? Too bad.
Cut the edges of each crepe to create square-shaped pancakes
Don't forget to eat these edges. Why? NEVER EVER waste food!!
And you're very lucky because a square has...
three equal sides.
A lot to eat!
Last step : Shape your nigiri and maki sushi!
To do so, the secret is to dip your fingers in the water!
To shape your nigiri-sushi, take a small amount of sushi rice, roll and squeeze it
until it rolls into a firm "log" sized rectangle. Use your thumb and middle finger.
Flatten a bit its top with your index finger.
Then, place a dab of melted chocolate or gelly and the fruit you like, on the rice "log".
To shape your maki-sushi, wet your fingers and spread rice
over five-sixths of the square-shaped pancake.
Place berries in a line a little off centre, nearest to you.
You can place batons of all the fruit you like and even chocolate spread!
To roll your maki, you can use a "makisu" : a bamboo rolling mat.
You can also use foil paper and I will show you how!
And rice is sticking all over my fingers...
Roll it in three steps
and cut each roll in 6-8 slices using a moistened sharp knife.
