This is Catherine Bibble, reporting for MML News.
We're here today to investigate what appears to be a secret society in
existence since 1921.
It's goal:
to hoard information.
Its members, who are given free access, are the only ones able to take advantage
of the vast knowledge stored here.
Obviously a secret government organization. I will work diligently to
find out the truth.
People from all walks:
your neighbor, your friends, even your child
are joining this organization.
Excuse me Sir. >>Oh, sorry. >>Excuse me, may I ask you a few questions? >>No time. No, I'm in a hurry.
>>Did you see that?
He's obviously hiding something. We're going to have to be more aggressive.
Gary, get her!
Excuse me, Miss.
I have some questions for you.
>>No...I'm sorry. Uh...I don't understand what this is all about. >>I see you have some books.
Where did you get those books?
>>Maybe somebody else can help you. >>How did you join this organization?
Just as I suspected. I'm not going to get any direct answers out here.
But I am determined to get to the truth.
We'll have to go inside for some more investigation.
I've just entered the building and I can already see something suspicious is
going on.
Look at those smiling faces. They're definitely hiding something.
See this?
The Enemy Within.
Definitely a subversive title.
I have a feeling we're only scratched the surface.
Gary...Gary come get a look at this!
Obvious propaganda.
What are they trying to convince people of?
Look at all this information are offering to people,
to members,
and for free.
Slapshot.
The Architect.
Oh..
Public Enemies.
Really, do we need any more evidence?
Oh...Gary...back up. Take a look at this.
VHS format as well.
They're trying to get everyone.
Oh no.
Ladies and gentlemen, some of you may want to avert your eyes from the screen.
It appears
that they're trying to enlist even the youngest members of our society.
Mind games?
This appears to be a training manual! [disgusted sigh]
Gary...come here.
Are you getting this?
This is obviously bigger than i thought.
It appears to be some sort of alien presence controlling this organization.
I bet this is how they communicate.
And they've obviously enlisted their young recruits to work the technology for them.
What exactly are you doing here? >>Huh?
>>Oh, I see. I understand.
You can't answer me either.
Hmm.
This must be one of their founding fathers.
He certainly hold a place of high regard in the organization.
Oh, look.
Information from other like-minded groups.
They appear to want to help
by sharing information. More hoarding it for their members!
Well, not for their members. Anyone can take that information if they'd like it.
If they need it, you're welcome to take. Or, if you need more information you can look
it up on the computer
without a membership.
I see. What about these books?
Again, you can read any of the books here while you're in the library
but if you want to take them home, then you need a membership.
Yes...
hoarding information again for members use only.
Just as I suspected.
Well, you could go to the front desk and the lady there will help you with a membership.
Really?
I just may do that.
>>Can I help you?
>>Yes. I'd like to...uh...get a membership.
>>That's great. Do you have any identification with you? >>Like what?
My family history,
blood type, social insurance number? >>[chuckles] No, just something that shows proof of your
address and your identity, like your driver's license.
>>Oh...I could do that. >>Great.
I'll just get you this form.
You fill it out and sign the back of your card. We'll laminate it for you and get your
information the system.
>>The system?
What system? Some sort of secret government agency?
>>No, it's just on our computer only. Just so we can contact you if we need to. >>Oh.
Thanks. I'll just get this taken care of for you and it will just be a few minutes.
Here's your card.
Now, just so you know, as a new member we do limit what you can take out to three items
and only one can be a video or dvd.
>>So you do limit the information people can get?
>>Just temporarily. Just for about six months until we get to know you better. >>Oh. Okay.
Here's a bookmark with our basic information on it. Our hours, contact
information, that sort of thing.
And this is a personalized information, so you can access our eresources.
We have our passwords here....and here. >>Passwords? How did you get
my passwords?
>>We didn't. We just used the basic information you gave us and created one. >>Oh.
With this, you can download ebooks,
or access our eresources, or go on our online catalogue.
>>So I can read books online? >>Yes.
>>And I can do research?
>>Absolutely.
Oh, this could be really helpful!
[cameraman clears throat to get reporter's attention]
Oh...ah...it appears that the diabolical nature of this organization has been greatly
exaggerated or
even fabricated.
There is a great deal of information available
but it is available to be shared with all.
And you can even
access some from home.
This is Catherine Bibble reporting for MML News.
Thank you.
This is wonderful. I can read that latest bestseller,
and I can do some research.
>>I tried to tell you.
>>Oh, you did no such thing.
I knew all along that the library was a wonderful place to get information. The idea of it
being a conspiracy was just silly. [cameraman sighs]
