What’s really special about the Grateful Dead is this definite relationship that they
had with their fans. And there was a great intersection at the concerts; essentially
the Grateful Dead is known for their shows, and the whole performance. Their performances
are much more interesting in a sense more potent that the albums, recorded albums.
And the fan community in a sense has provided us with a very interesting opportunity to
build a socially constructive website. So that relationship that the band had with his
fans and now the band we hopefully will have, see them having with the archive is something
that we see to really make this project take off in a very special way.
Just the last session that just came from here at IMLS was all on one of the interesting
sort of statistics that the presenters were talking about was that there was a very small
percentage of expert users that engaged with providing that enhanced Medidata or that participate
in the process, and what, I think we are helping to find is that that population might expand
a little bit more when you have a community that is so dedicated, so that would be something
more precarious to see, and then how long we might be able to retain their interest
in working with us as we expand on the archive.
