today I'm gonna go out and see if I could draw something
sketch pad wander around here if there's is something interesting
to draw Oh it looks like a stegosaurus
today we're going to be drawing
the Stegosaurus oh what a beauty you know, the first stegosaurus was found in 1877
in Colorado. And the called it the stegosaurus which means roof lizard
They thought those plates laid flat
It's also known as the covered lizard
that's what stegosaurus means. it's from the late Jurassic period
shouldn't be here now, it's like 150 to
155 million years ago
yet at the same time it roam the earth with allosaurus
and those spikes at the back of that tail there
they are there to fight off allosaurus
we know this because in the allosaurus vertebrae in the tail
piecing or puncture that exactly matches the stegosaurus or spikes
so it's probably a good defense
these guys at nine meters long which is 30 feet
and up to 4 metres high
we're starting off with shapes, with circle that
and from here we're going to do two curves like that
another circle
a half circle
like a cross between a letter V
and a letter U there you go, that is easy
another oval there
and another oval here
here we are going to do his hip bone
across here
a bit of a tricky angle
I'm going to
draw a line like that
and a line like this
this is where the plates are going to be
so it's like a little upside down letter U there
fatter one here
now to do each side we have to double it up
one there
there, bigger one there
there
maybe part of one there
continue in here
another skinny oval there
and one there,one there
going to put here under each one a line like that
and I'm going to put
skinny letter U there
now at the side here a nice big curve like that
another curve
like that
now some more upside down
letter U s
another one and another
and here, some weapons
So curved lines like skinny letter V s here
we are getting this guy started well
draw out a bit of a tummy on it here
I'm going to start putting in some details now
lump there at the top of the shoulder
here like elephant's toes is the letter O
the eyes going to be here
little bump there for the eye
little bump there, I'm going to shape this
so I've done a curve there and a curve there
and another curve there like that
back of the head, looking good
now I'm going to put
a bit of a ridge coming down like this
keep in mind that these do not have to be
perfectly the same as mine. one of the things about
nature is variety animals are fat
thin, thick
so you can draw that, yours might be fatter than mine
it might be skinnier than mine, it wouldn't really matter
put a little eye in here
and a nose hole here
now these plates here
each one of these has to go in a little bit like that
slightly more dimond shaped
I tend to draw straight over top
I worry too much about erasing things
sometimes I enjoy seeing construction lines
now lets put some...
circles on here
some of the illustrations I have seen of these guys
they have dots like that
like lumpy scales
need to put a bit of light in the eyes
so a little circle
shade around that that's his eye
I'm going to shade this foot here
shade this under there
give these plates a bit of shade like this
where they join I might just
do a few lines around like that
do that to every plate
a little bit more shade
in this section here
next I'm going to put some wrinkles here
like this
wrinkles in the right place is a skill
itself see how I leave White gaps
that's always important
now I'm coming out almost to the edge there
here a lot of wrinkles like an elephant
some small lizards
dragons or geckos
they have wrinkles there as well
creases here
around the ankles, the knees, the joins... anywhere
where there is movement where the animal has to move
more lines here
what I'm doing here is on
each toe I'm just doing that
a bit of shading here under the tail
another trick is to always put your heavy lines
underneath not so much on top
what I'm doing now, between these toes
shading those bits in like that
dashes like this
to make shade
bit of grass
and that's my version of the stegosaurs
and there's our a picture of the Stegosaurus I hope you guys joined in
and if it did well you can post your picture on my wall
on the Facebook page link below I''ll see you next time
