My name is Karlis Venskus.
I was born in 1941, in August.
Last summer I started to lose weight,
and I started to feel weaker.
I didn't pay attention to it,
I used to be chubby.
I was glad I had lost weight, women praised me.
But in November I started to feel..
that I cannot eat a lot of certain food,
I felt heaviness in the upper part of my stomach after eating,
as if the food would get stuck there.
I did not worry too much,
but it got worse.
I could not eat hard food.
I began to eat porridge, crackers...
I went to the doctor.
The doctor sent me to endoscopy.
The results came back bad.
They found cancer in the lower part of the stomach.
It was spreading.
The stomach outlet was narrowing, and the cancer was metastasising to liver.
I went to the doctor in the oncology center.
Doctor Sapovalova forwarded me to the department of surgery,
and Professor Vladimir Januskevic said that a surgery was needed.
Well, it was difficult for me to accept,
but still I had to decide to make the step,
and two thirds of my stomach were removed. Also part of my liver.
But before that, before the surgery
I started to use Rigvir.
But still the surgery had to be performed.
After the surgery Rigvir course continued.
Then the doctor told me I needed to start chemotherapy.
In the oncology center the chemotherapist said that chemotherapy was needed.
I started chemotherapy, took it for a whole month.
It got worse.
The results after chemotherapy were very bad.
I stopped chemotherapy in the middle of the course,
and I continue using Rigvir.
At present, I feel fine,
- How long have you already been using it? Rigvir?
Well, since January 2012.
I feel good now.
I drive the bicycle.
take walks with poles, do sports.
I mow the lawn, play musical instruments, sing, sing in a choir, perform in concerts.
And starting with autumn I will begin again to work in school.
- What about your swallowing? I have no pains.
- Inflammation? No, there are no pains,
I can eat everything, but I try to 'take it easy',
for example, oatmeal porridge, salad, berries, and tomatoes and cucumbers.
- You are still administering Rigvir? Yes, I still administer it.
- And no side-effects? No, there are none.
-Thank you, congratulations. I'm really happy to meet you...
It was inspiring for me on a personal level, and maybe this would be very inspiring
also for many people in my part of the world.
And thank you because you are doing a big favour for many people by this talk.
