Well I mean I think to me I use this quote quite often. A poet, a woman poet once said
“the world is not made of atoms but made of stories” and I think it is our stories
that keep movements alive if we are listen. I am so glad and respect so much that you
are collecting our stories but also new people are coming to us and sharing their stories
and trying to find their voice. I guess for me what really drives me and many people connected
with the VCIL we need to make sure that we are finding ways to reach people when they
are dealing with disability so they can move to a place in their lives the power that have
as individuals to provide a catalyst to the world and live their lives with integrity.
We meet so many people because the independent living movement is still in process where
people have given up a belief in their selves or have never found it. Our job is to figure
out how to shape the resources we are lucky enough to have and how we can get more of
them. To give people every opportunity to connect with their human strength, their creativity,
the tremendous amount they have to contribute and one place we are seeing that is in that
the work we have started doing in the last 7 years we youth leadership.
