Basically the boat is in very good shape.
There isn’t a big jobs list,
though 3 or 4 days before the end of the race,
we hit a whale.
It was a big issue as
we were doing 20 something knots at the time
and hit it very hard
before slowing the boat right down
as something like that comes as a real fright.
As such, we’re going over the whole boat carefully:
the keel fin, the bulb, the structure, the composite, the steel…
We’re checking her overall condition thoroughly
to avoid any repercussions from this incident.
Things are very tight this weekend so
we don’t have a lot of time to spend on things.
As usual we have a lot of work to do,
but there are no big issues.
We’re just taking care of the boat to
ensure she’s thoroughly reliable.
The keel is very clean,
though we hit a whale
so we’re opening up the fin/bulb attachment to check the bolts
and ensure that nothing’s shifted.
In principle nothing has moved and all’s well.
It’s the second time we’ve opened up the section
on this circumnavigation of the globe.
We already performed the same operation in Abu Dhabi
and this time we did it because we’d hit something,
but otherwise we’ve realised that it’s not moving at all.
We’re very happy with the boat.
At each stopover we’re under pressure
as we create a schedule for work,
but every time they arrive late,
which squeezes everything up in terms of timing.
We have our fingers crossed that
they don’t come in with some really big issues and
so far, each time,
we’ve managed to make up for lost time and
haven’t had any serious problems.
As such, overall we’re very content with
the boat as she’s fully serviceable.
