the FBI is investigating the Idaho Correctional Center
after it turns out that a number other inmates have been complaining
about how crowd there aren't enough correctional officers there
and they're being replaced by gang members
so this is a really fascinating story broke a few years ago the state started
investigating at the facility
and I should know that this is a private prison it's run by quote Corrections
Corporation of America
and among the allegations is that this a huge facility in Idaho is actually the
largest prison in the state
%uh decided they're going to understaffed the officers there
and instead up could leading gang members
in the same cell so they can basically counterbalance one another
so CCAA had understaffed the prison by up to 26,000
hours in 2012 although the company disputes the findings
the ACLU sued the present company in 2010 on behalf of the employees
who said the facility was so while it that inmates called it gladiator school
and the suit blame the violence on chronic understaffing
the company also agreed last month to pay one million dollars to Idaho which
pays
Corrections Corporation of America $29 million dollars a year to settle
understaffing claims
no just stop right there twenty nine million dollars a year
and that's taxpayer dollars 4 a private
institution okay he we've got to stop this
madness private prisons a now think about it therefore profit
so you know what I would do what maximize profit now how do you maximize
profit
my way so you do it is you cut expenses
in this case garter expenses so
what are they care if the prisoners repeat go to shreds
day don't give a damn we really can't think games run the prison
there for profit company they're not paid to care about that their
the whole produce share responsibility is to maximize profits
so of course they're gonna do this we cannot keep away
core duties on the government there are many things you can privatize
but the core duties to protect the citizens cannot be given away
so when you privatize it well of course are gonna play favorites of course are
going to all the things you don't like privatizing the cops
gee I wonder will they protect the people who pay him the most old records
they were old it's absolutely ridiculous because one thing that they do with a
cherry pick the typeof inmates that'll bring in solo bringing
inmates that are healthy it will cost a lot of money to house them
and at the same time to ensure that their non-violent offenders so they're
not to spend a lot of money or a lot of time making sure that violent things
don't happen
although this particular case they would put rival gang members in the same cell
which is
absolutely crazy up another thing is what they're gonna push for legislation
that will continue things like the war on drugs right so they can
have like a steady flow inmate come into their institution
taxpayers will pay for their institution and it doesn't really do much to
rehabilitate people because you
you don't have to abide by the same standards that state
run up facilities have to abide by you don't have the same rules
just to give you an example in five years Corrections Corporation of America
has been sued at least 279 times
come on man look we have two million Americans
in prison today we blow away every other country
on a per capita basis it's not even close the Chinese the saudis the
iranians
all these the russians they all look absolutely liberal compared to us
in terms of how many people we imprison why because we create a profit motive
to imprison people the day
all these private prisons should be shut down
and covered in the up government-run prisons
because we can't outsource this isn't absolute outrage
even if you're not outraged by the Gladiator
situation they set up in that prison or their run by gangs et cetera
you gotta be our res at least that we motivated
are cops are prosecutors are politicians
and in our prisons to create more prisoners
exactly will innocent people wind up in prison because that
obviously very well and then they get thrown into this
gladiator nonsense let me just look at what happened to our prison population
after the nineteen eighties the nineteen eighties when
the majority of these for-profit prison started popping up then all of a sudden
you see that the prison population jumped significantly
because they've the push they work with organizations like
Alec to push tough-on-crime legislation so that's why the majority of people
that are behind bars right now are there for drug-related offenses and
non-violent property crimes
amp and the one thing that you can go to jail before
thanks to alec is standing your ground bed
killing people it's crazy in ordeal for everything else I mean we're
we got up I by: me send you into the chain gang
no probs but you know if you go pick up I was somebody in a fight back you
should have had you free to go
and is so again go moderate Jaspers letter who so when he walked in the
prison
cities-a_b_c_ a place that black in his lap okay
any obviously Krabi black I but he grew up in berkeley
sorry I've never seen anything like that because the system is set up
to take those kids or disadvantage in provide a pipeline
do modern-day slavery and the meanwhile
you know why people should black people in Florida
stand your ground what can you do
