When I first stumbled across the Technology Strategy Board competition to develop the
world's next light bulb I thought it was made for our our company. Zeta specialist lighting is at
the cutting edge of LED technology and we are striving to reduce carbon emissions and
reduce energy consumption for all our customers, so we applied for and subsequently won a competition
to develop a unique and new light bulb which we called the 'Lifebulb'. At the outset they
gave us a critical set of technical parameters that we had to meet; we had to use the right
light output, had to use the right power consumption and give the right quality of light - that's
not easy, our Lifebulb is the only product that gives a complete 360degree light pattern,
has got a nice warm colour has got a very good quality of light to it. The power consumption
is significantly lower. The development of the Lilfebulb really is quite important if
you think about the number of light bulbs in the world today and the amount of energy
they are using, the fact that we can reduce that by nearly 80% it really is a phenomenal
impact to the way in which we look at energy, the way we consume energy in the modern world.
Winning the grant for the Lifebulb was a real game changer for Zeta. It enabled us to step
up not only our innovation but also our business processes to grow the business and be a global
player taken seriously.
