Two companies supported
by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid Business Incubator Science Park
innovate on fashion field with robotic-based technology.
Samsania launches a mobile app: Dresscovery,
which is able to identify a purse just by taking a picture.
We have developed an app, Dresscovery,
that allows to identify a purse and buy it online automatically.
It searches for the most similar purse
available within a large database.
How does Dresscovery work?
With your Smartphone
you take a picture from the purse you want to find,
then select the area and go search.
Then you will find a set of pictures
with the most similar purses that are available to buy.
Dresscovery identifies purses
and will soon be able to recognize other items
such as shoes, trousers, coats, etc.
What is the technology behind this research?
This is the result of a research
from the robotics team of the Universidad Carlos III.
As for the technology it extracts some of the image features
such as color, shape, texture and it compares them
with the same features on a large image database.
How did the Science Park supported your project?
The Science Park has particularly helped us
with the business plan development, financing and visibility plan
and with contacts with another companies and investors.
On the other hand,
BeMee has set up a system called Proximus
that can localize people within a shopping mall
for a better assistance of clients.
Thanks to Proximus we have developed the first system
enabled to localize people within buildings in real time.
How does the system work?
By installing some small buoys at the shopping mall
we are able to analyze the behavior of the people inside
so that we can precise the needs and interests of individuals within.
There is a wide range of application for this type of technology.
We can find it at shopping malls, at retail stores,
in hospitals to be able to find a specific doctor
and even at the movies entrance
so that your cell phone can be switched off
or on silent mode when the movie starts.
Proximus has a great technologic component inside
thanks to the theses on robotics done by some of its founding members.
We have developed the first indoor localization algorithm
that allows to precisely locate people within buildings
enabled by Bluetooth 4.
How did the science park supported your project?
We belong to the robotics field
and thanks to the business incubator we have combined it
with our basic knowledge about business model,
competitors, how to deal with investors
and, of course, to expand our contacts
and visibility within the business world.
