V/O: It's a remarkable thing to change one person's life. But what if it were possible
to transform an entire country?
In a small country in Central America, thousands of families live in poverty -- making enough
to survive, but unable to move beyond their difficult living conditions.
Can this cycle of poverty be broken?
Louis: We live in a country where one out of two families is extremely poor.
Most of the PathLight kids, when you ask them about the educational history of their family,
they will tell you, "I am the first one to be in school."
V/O: Like many in Belize, Sulema grew up in a farming family, and has been helping her
father on the farm since she was just seven years old.
Although she excelled in primary school, her parents were unable to afford to send her
to high school.
Through PathLight, Sulema was provided not just with an education, but with tutoring
and mentorship to nurture her academic, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
In 2011, she graduated at the top of her class, and is now continuing her education at the
University of Belize, something no one in her family has achieved.
Educating a child and giving them the resources to become leaders has a ripple effect that
can transform their communities and give future generations hope to escape the cycle of poverty.
Louis: What we are talking about here at PathLight is something revolutionary for our country.
The fact that these kids are being helped academically, they're being helped morally,
they're being helped socially, and then we're giving them an opportunity to go on in their
education and we're exposing them to the real world.
You think you're giving the child a scholarship. But you're really giving the child a genuine
shot at life itself.
V/O: In this small, overlooked nation, providing children with an education has the real potential
to transform the entire country. This dream is achievable, and we hope that you'll join
us in our efforts to bring hope through faith and learning.
