We really encourage students to be ideas people as well as making,
and that's what we do best.
We get that really excellent balance across our courses
of making skills and of thinking skills.
The subjects included are fine art,
graphics, architecture,
landscape, design, interior,
so it's very broad in terms of what you can come and see.
There are different kind of themes
depending on which subject you're looking at
and which show you're looking at.
In the design subjects, particularly in architecture, landscape, interior,
there's a really strong theme running through a lot of the shows
which is about sustainability, about community,
and also a real sort of sense of academic underpinning.
One of the things that we've been doing for years
are collaborative and community projects,
so students, when they come here, don't just spend time in the studio.
They'll be out in Leeds or in other places
working with communities on real live projects.
And we really do believe that's a great strength,
and it's an historical strength, as well.
We've been doing it for a long time.
I quite like the idea of the sculpture interacting with the audience
instead of just standing occupying a space.
The whole point of it being confrontational with the gun
really brings the audience into it.
Also, for people working with sculpture,
the Henry Moore Institute has possibly the best library outside of London
in regards to sculpture.
If you are working in sculpture, it is one of the best reasons,
that you've got all these resources right on your doorstep.
What I've presented is a body of six or so works,
essentially music videos based on the idea of comedy.
Being here and learning from the experiences of different people
and being in a relationship with very creative people
enables you to really broaden your horizons
artistically and philosophically,
and really push the idea that you had and bring it into fruition.
Our degree show has 500 students exhibiting in it.
And so they come to the show, to the opening, their parents, their friends.
But we also get a very good attendance
by local businesses, local designers and local artists.
It's been a lot of fun making these.
A lot of blood, sweat and tears has gone into this work,
but somebody tonight's actually made me an offer.
I was just so shocked at it,
and I've just been speaking to a few tutors about pricing,
and I'm just...
The tutors have helped me so much,
considering that it's a medium that nobody is really familiar with,
but they've been able to offer me a lot of advice along the way.
I just had a lot of fun on this course.
Our students, after they leave, end up with a portfolio of their work,
but they also have had experience, before they leave, of the world of work,
of project-based approaches,
of working with a range of different clients and partners.
This means that lots of our students go straight into work.
Many of them also become self-employed or get studio spaces,
or collaborate together.
It's not just about skills.
It's not just about making art, making design,
making architectural drawings and models.
It's about getting some real experience at the same time when you're here.
