[Barbara Hannah Grufferman] I'm planning on feeling pretty for the rest of my life,
no matter what my age—and how will I do that, you ask?
By using a little bit of the right makeup in the right places.
Stay tuned.
[The Best of Everything with Barbara Hannah Grufferman]
It's a fact that women feel more confident when they wear a little makeup—
even just a little bit of lipstick.
Look, it's not about impressing others—
it's about feeling good about you.
[Everyday Makeup After 50]
So whether going to the store, a job interview, or walking your dog,
let me show you a few fast and easy ways
to look polished and pretty in a few simple steps.
Okay, everyone, are you ready to look gorgeous?
Secret weapon number one is this—
CeraVe daily moisturizer with SPF 30.
You want your skin to be moisturized and protected from the sun
before you put on any makeup.
Then, for that special area—very fragile and delicate—
under your eyes, use a special cream like this—
RoC with retinol built right in.
You just want to put a few dots under your eyes,
really closer to the bone,
and above your eye as well.
Keep away from the lash line so your eyes don't get irritated.
And while everything is setting in, go and do 20 push-ups.
And then come right back.
I don't believe in foundation during the day,
so I prefer to use a CC cream, or a BB cream, or a tinted moisturizer.
Today I'm using CoverGirl and Olay—
it has a built-in serum as well.
And it's very light and goes on smoothly,
and it covers the dry spots
and some of those red areas I've been seeing as I've been getting older.
I like to use a light concealer like this one.
And you just use your ring finger and tap on a little bit,
and put a few dots under your eyes,
and blend by patting, not by rubbing.
And a little bit around the nose area.
Secret weapon number 2—highlighter.
One of the best ways to really brighten your whole face
is to use something like this.
By Benefit—High Beam—it's a creamy highlighter.
And you want to use it in 3 strategic places—
under your eyebrow, above your cheekbones,
and then on the inside corner of your eye—just a little bit.
Secret weapon number 3—it's by Laura Geller, Balance and Brighten.
It starts out as a liquid foundation,
and then it's baked to turn into a powder.
It has a beautiful finish.
I very often wear this right over my moisturizer like this.
You just take it with the brush and buff it all in
for a beautiful glow
and nice, very light coverage.
Now let's get a nice pop of color on the cheeks.
I love CoverGirl Cheekers in Natural Twinkle,
which gives us a nice, natural glow, like we're really blushing.
And you want to make sure that you don't apply it too close to your nose,
because that could bring everything down.
But start halfway under your eye with a nice brush like this one
and just swing it up a little bit toward your hairline—
and see how nice that looks?
For an everyday makeup look, I normally skip eyeshadow altogether,
but once in a while I'll just add this—
Revlon cream eyeshadow in Just Not Nudes—
just to add a little bit of extra glow and definition to my eyes.
One of the best ways to make your eyes really stand out
is to define them with a little bit of eyeliner, like this one—
Revlon ColorStay in Charcoal.
You want to make sure you're very careful when applying it
so it doesn't look too bold,
especially for an everyday look.
And keep it very close to the lash line—
add it on top and a little bit underneath
so it defines without really being
overly made up.
Secret weapon number 4—eye lash curler by Shu Uemura.
Even if you're not wearing mascara that day,
you don't leave home without doing this first.
Okay, now that your lashes are perfectly curled,
you're ready for a little mascara—and I do mean a little, especially for day.
Go with black—and this is wonderful,
L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara.
And you put on one coat, and try to get as close to the roots as you can,
and wait a few seconds, and add a second coat.
No lumping, no clumping.
And just forget about doing your bottom lashes.
I've noticed that as I've gotten older,
my eyebrows have become a little thinner, a little sparse,
and my mother believed in—and still does—
in Maybelline's eyebrow pencil—she's been using it for decades.
And this is what I use, too.
So you want to just fill them in a little bit,
just to add in a little definition,
and it really makes your eyes pop.
Lipstick—it's so important to me, I'm willing to splurge.
One of the best I've found is this, by Bobbi Brown
in Tulle.
Beautiful color that's a pinky-rosy shade
and flattering for just about every skin tone.
And when I want a little bit of extra shine or color on top of that,
I'll use this beautiful pinky-coraly color by Armani.
Now, that's what I call splurging.
[Before, After]
Okay, here's your beauty plan.
Keep makeup light, and keep it pretty.
Wear sunscreen every day, rain or shine.
Don't try to cover up your face with too much makeup.
Use concealer only if you need it.
Aim for rosy, pink tones on your cheeks and lips.
Put a dot of highlighter under your brows,
on top of cheekbones, and inside corner of eyes.
Follow your natural lash line for a natural look.
And don't forget to use the secret weapons.
Until next time, remember this—
we can't control getting older, but we can control how we do it.
