Peace and good!
Welcome once again from our orange sofa:).
Today we'll be talking about late vocation. Is it worse, how should it be perceived? Is there such a thing as late vocation at all?
We're called by God so does this mean that he was late, forgot about us for a while?
And then suddenly he remembered that he was supposed to call us to do some things?
We can read a lot about vocation in the Bible, especially looking at the prophets from the Old Testament.
We can notice that God calls people from the moment they are conceived in their mother's womb.
What does it mean? It means that vocation is deeply connected with human nature.
I'm not referring to the job I'm going to do but to the way I'm going to live my life.
It may be sacrificing my life to God or to another person in marriage. It's about my place in this world.
God has a plan for every person's life.
And our task is to follow this plan, discover our vocation, God's idea of our life.
And we pray for it saying the words of the prayer that Jesus taught us: Thy will be done: on earth as it is in heaven. So in my life as well.
I want to follow God's will and experience what He planned for me. In this sense there is not such thing as late vocation.
I understand that saying that vocation is 'late' we mean that somebody understood what his vocation is late.
It may be that now it's more difficult to hear God's voice. I went to the monastery right after graduation. I went after finishing school, for a change;).
And among the men who joined our monastery this year only one was a secondary school graduate and all the other were older, even univeristy graduates.
So these proportions change. Is this world we live in making it more and more difficult to discover our vocation? We live too fast and don't know where we're going.
It's true that we often focus on many things around us but forget about the plan for our own life.
We don't think about our future, we don't care about our happiness.
We don't care about happiness which can be achieved through harmony with God and having peace in our hearts. Happiness is not about a good job and money.
On the other hand, if you discovered your vocation late, you should be happy that you discovered it at all.
As it may happen that a person keeps looking for his place in this world for his whole life.
So blessed is the moment when you're saying: finally I know what to do with my life!
Or the moment when you had the courage to answer this voice that has been calling you for some time and you kept running away from it.
So a person is really happy only when she knows that she's following her vocation. And it's not only about sacrificing your life to God.
Some people run away from the vocation to be a husband or wife and are afraid of the decision to get married.
So you can't be happy if you keep postponing your vocation, also to life in marriage.
It's very interesting, I thought. Very interesting. I'm all ears:).
It's not only about priesthood but in any other sphere of life, people need more and more time to discover their vocation.
It's about discovering your vocation but also about inability to make decisions.
It might be caused by lack of certainty that the decision is good but still many people are unable to make serious decisions in their lives.
We're afraid of the consequences. We're afraid that we won't be happy. That we'll make a mistake in our choice.
We can keep asking these questions till the end of our lives. It this the right person to spend my life with? You have to make the decision one day.
So, we wish you to discover your vocation and find happiness in your life.
If you hear that a voice is calling you but you're afraid to follow it, don't! Pray for discovering your vocation. Be happy in your life!
And nobody has a better plan for your life than God!
Peace and good!
