Hi, Otto here for Bavarian Autosport. Today we are going to talk about BMW hood and trunk
emblems. Does your emblem look like this? We'll show you how easy it is to replace your
worn out emblem and make it just like new again.
We just need a couple of simple tools. Non-marring pry bar set, a rag or cloth and a small pair
of needle nose pliers. We will also show you how easy it is to change the colors on your
emblems using these complete color change kits.
Before we begin, let's address a common question. Why does my emblem have a blue tint? If you
receive your new emblems and they do have a blue tint, this is just a protective sheet.
Simply peel it off. Here we have a common BMW hood emblem. Note
the two male pins on the back of the emblem and the grommets that secure the pins in the
hood. The pins are located at the 3 O'clock and 9 O'clock positions. We will use the non-marring
pry tool and the rag for paint protection. Position the rag on the hood next to the emblem.
Gently work the pry tool under the edge of the emblem starting at the pin locations.
Work around the emblem to evenly pull the emblem up and out of the grommets. Be careful
not to gouge the edge of the emblem into the paint.
We can now remove the two grommets. Use needle nose pliers to carefully pull the grommets
from the holes. Install the new grommets
and finally install the new emblem by evenly pressing the pins into the grommets. That
was easy. A popular modification that personalizes your
BMW is to change the colors of the blue and white quadrants on the BMW emblems. Our emblem
color change kit includes enough color change sections to modify all of the emblems on a
typical BMW; from the hood and trunk, to the wheel emblems, and even the steering wheel.
We will change this hood emblem from blue to red. We have already installed one of the
red quadrants. Let's install another red section over the remaining blue quadrant. Carefully
remove the color section from the backing sheet. Try to handle the section as little
as possible, to prevent finger prints in the adhesive or kinks in the material. We will
install the red section directly over the blue quadrant on the emblem. Carefully align
one side of the color section with the edge of the blue quadrant. Once the colored section
is properly aligned and centered, gently press the rest of the section into place; working
out to the outer edges in order to prevent bubbles. If you see any bubbles, under the
color section, gently lift the section and work the bubbles out. Once the color section
is properly placed, with no bubbles, press it down firmly, and burnish the edges into
the corners. There you are. You can also change the colors
of the remaining quadrants using the same color or by using, a second color change kit.
By mixing or matching colors, you have many options to make your BMW unique.
Here, we'll show you how to apply the emblem shield to protect your new emblem. Remove
the emblem shield from the backing sheet. Hold the edges of the shield lightly, to prevent
fingerprints in the adhesive. Hold the shield above the emblem and carefully align the edge
of the shield with the inner edge of the chrome trim ring on the emblem. Slow and gently press
the shield into place working towards the opposite side. This will help to prevent air
bubbles. If you see that the perimeter of the shield is not aligning with the edge of
the chrome trim ring, pull the shield up and reposition it. As you get to the opposite
side of the emblem, stretch the shield material as needed in order to force it to conform
to the contours of the convex emblem. Once the shield is fully and properly placed,
burnish down the surfaces and the edges. Work the shield tightly against the chrome areas.
