[Tara Reed]: Hi, this is Tara Reed [off camera].
And I am here with artist, Karyn Servin.
She lives right by me, and told me that I could bring my camera over
- even offered me tea -
but now we are going to get down to business
and hear about her background and
how she has learned about art licensing.
Well, being an illustrator for many years,
I have created things for advertising, editorial
that type of work, and then,
being an appreciator of cool things,
I noticed that there is beautiful art everywhere.
and so learned about Tara's blog, and
did some research and found that
creating my art, and sending it out that I could be on
beautiful things too.
[Tara Reed]: So what kinds of things can we find your art on, Karyn?
Well, I got my first real license, and Joann's [joann.com]
is going to carry one of my patterns.
and it's these fun wine glasses.
[Tara Reed]: Oh very cool. And when can we find that? Do you know?
Well, I think it will be about a year before we actually see it -
maybe less.
Oh, OK, cool. And, what are your hopes and aspirations?
Like, what kind of stuff do you want to get your art on now?
Where do you think you're going to be a good fit?
Well, I have to admit,
I do really enjoy the element of patterns a lot.
I'm not really somebody who likes to just do a still-life type painting,
so I enjoy the pattern making and the puzzle creation,
and so I would like to keep working in patterns and borders
and things like that, so I love fabric.
I love to see it on wallpaper.
I wouldn't mind seeing it on canisters and things like that,
but I'm not a greeting card artist.
so, I would like to focus more on the larger surface areas if possible.
[Tara Reed]: OK. Very cool, and
where can we find you online?
I am at KarynServin.com
All right. Thank you so much, and that is Karyn Servin's Art Licensing Story. Look for great things.
Thank you Tara.
