A bay area business that is known for putting people in homes on wheels is also doing a
lot to help young people who don't have homes at all. Employees of Lazydays RV have dedicated
a lot of time and effort to the project.
At Lazydays, workers spend their days hooking customers up with traveling homes away from
home. They also make sure those RVs are in tip-top shape, but there's something more
at work here. Employees have also given more than $1M over the years to the
Lazydays Employee Foundation that they started.
So we organize the thoughts in your head.
The Foundation funds projects like this workshop for young people who have faced homelessness.
Well, what happens is you want to be a millionaire.
It takes more than 12 months to become a millionaire.
In this case, the young people are getting some coaching on goal setting at Hillsborough
Kids Family Place. The idea is to help the students make it to college and be successful
in life. The Lazydays Employee Foundation has helped Hillsborough Community College
student, Erica Pimental, with a place to stay. It's also provides her with an outreach coordinator
in conjunction with a program the Foundation funds.
Like, I know if I need help I can call her up or text her at whatever time of night that
I need her and she's going to be there with open arms, ready to receive me, ready to help
me with whatever it is that's going on in my life.
Participating Lazydays employees have money taken out of their paychecks each week. And
all of the time they give is voluntary. Nobody gets paid. But there's a big payoff when they
see first hand the young people who are helped.
And they got to meet the kids and see them in school, and the kids were going up and
hugging the employees. And seeing where they live and where they play and where they learn.
Everyone was in tears.
I couldn't imagine my children being homeless, or without my wife and I. So, it really is
heartwarming to be able to help someone else's kids who are in that position.
Now that Foundation will soon open the Ybor Youth Clinic.
It is the first medical clinic of its kind in the southeast. It also funds a home
for children who have faced neglect or abuse, so they can stay together as siblings.
